Oldsmar's history dates to 1913 when automobile pioneer Ransom E. Olds purchased 37 thousand acres of land near the northern edge of Tampa Bay to establish R. E. Olds-on-the-Bay. Later changed to Oldsmar, then to Tampa Shores in 1927, the growing community's name was changed back to Oldsmar in 1937 and has remained stable ever since.

The City of Oldsmar sits on the Eastern edge of Pinellas County.
